Two Birds on the Land is a collaboration of Mary Lucille Hays and Karen Kowalski Singer

KAREN KOWALSKI SINGER: I’m a poet, photographer and prairie enthusiast. My poems have appeared in numerous small journals and webjournals My blog, the Prairie Year, which chronicles my exploration of prairie habitat and the seasonal transformation there, as well as thoughts on ecology, the environment, poetry and metaphysics, has just reached its one year anniversary.

MARY LUCILLE HAYS: I live on the family farm where my grandmother was born. I write letters to remind myself to look around at what is blooming, sprouting, dropping fruit, or dying in my yard and in my community. My column, “Letter from Birdland” appears in several community newspapers in the Midwest. I teach writing at the University of Illinois. I'm interested in connections I can follow to join other threads of my life and my community.
